Invitations

I am really pleased with the way our wedding invitations turned out. Originally, I was all for getting something pre-designed, but Douglas pressed for an original design and now I'm so glad he did. It was a team effort between us and we are both happy with the results!

Douglas drew the representation of my engagement/wedding ring, and I scanned it and cleaned it up in Paint Shop Pro. It makes for an interesting medallion, no? Several people have asked if it's a family crest or symbol... perhaps it will be from now on! ;-)

The invitation text is printed on the inside of the card, using the font Edwardian Script ITC. We also included R.S.V.P. cards with self-addressed, stamped envelopes, plus a 2x3, black and white engagement snapshot, as well as a business card with the address of our wedding website. My grandmother was very helpful in stuffing and addressing envelopes! And it's been fun to sort through the barrage of R.S.V.P.s that piled up while we were away on vacation.

Feminine winter wear

Although I like to wear feminine things, I find I have a harder time doing so once the weather turns cold. For one thing, I don't have as many winter skirts as I do summer skirts! A few weeks ago, I flipped through some magazines and catalogs for inspiration, then did a few doodles of skirt designs I might sew. Alas, most of them are not practical (and would that sewing were as easy as doodling!). ;) Are there any that you particularly like?

Sisters

This is a framed painting my Aunt Joanna gave me for my birthday this summer. We were in an antique store in Ohio and I admired it, so she offered to buy it for me as a gift! It's a fitting subject, since she and I are the only daughters born into the family... AND it goes well with the excessively feminine decor of my boudoir. :)

Dress sketch

My Grandma Leora gave me this sketch that she found in an old letter (I didn't see the letter, so I don't know anything about where it came from or why it was drawn). Judging by the style, I'd say it's from the early to mid-1930s. The clothes at this time were so elegant because of the columnar lines. No wonder it's my favorite era!

Handwritten letters

A longtime friend and I are working to keep the art of handwritten letters alive, literally. My homemade stationary was today adorned with all the earliest blooms of springtime -- tulips, narcissus, crocuses, snowdrops, and daffodils.
