Ribbonwork

My mom made this pretty little sachet from a kit she ordered at HelenGibb.com. Helen's books tell us that ribbonwork had its heyday in the 1920s. There are some beautiful examples of vintage ribbonwork currently at Vintage Textile: garters and an evening coat.

Oh, those are all so pretty! I've only done ribbon embroidery once before on a wedding sampler for a friend. (It was a combination of cross-stitch and ribbon embroidery, actually.) It's something I've thought about doing again, but never taken the initiative...

I found your blog by way of a rabbit trail that began with Ashleigh of Heart & Home. What a lovely, delightful, welcoming and otherwise breathtaking site you've fashioned. I'm happy to have spent some time here and will do so again. Hope that's all right. :o)

My daughter and her beau will be engaged soon so if you don't mind, I'll be peeking in for ideas, etc.

Your white gown is lovely. Did you make it? What material did you use? Pattern? Do you sew for others?

Bless you this lovely day...

April, I'd like to try ribbon embroidery one of these days... so many crafty things to do! ;-)

Lady Jane, thank you for saying hello -- of course you're welcome to stop by any time! Thanks for the compliment on my dress. I did make it myself from the Elegant Lady's Closet pattern from Sense & Sensibility. The fabric is white cotton voile. I have sewn some for family and friends but mostly for myself. :-)

What lovely work! Your mother is quite the talented ribbon embroiderer (is that a word?). There is something so delightful about making flowers out of ribbon -- somehow it just seems appropriate!

Yours in Christ,
Shannon

Thank you for the pattern link and type of fabric used for that lovely dress. I'll share this info with Lizzie, my daughter. :o)
