Elegy
St. Michael's Church, Bowness-on-Solway, Cumbria
"Beneath those rugged elms, that yew-tree's shade,
Where heaves the turf in many a mold'ring heap,
Each in his narrow cell forever laid,
The rude forefathers of the hamlet sleep."
--Excerpt from "Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard" by Thomas Gray, c. 1742-1750

There is something so mysterious and beautiful about an old cemetery. That is truly a lovely picture. Did you take it yourself on a visit to England?
And what a perfect combination of photography and verse.
Yours in Christ,
Shannon
You always have such lovely photos...
There is something that I love about old graveyards. Some intangible thing that makes me feel tied, even in some small way, to the past.

Thank you both! :-) Yes, Shannon, I did take it myself during a trip through the north of England in 2004. I occasionally like to revisit my photos and dream of going back...
