Sing Lullaby

I first heard "Sing Lullaby" by Herbert Howells on a radio broadcast of Nine Lessons and Carols a few years ago. It's still one of the most beautiful and poignant pieces of Christmas music I've ever heard. Enjoy!

Oh, and someone mentioned in the comments section on youtube that Herbert Howells was influenced by Vaughan-Williams. I can definitely hear the influence - something about the harmonies is reminiscent of his 3rd symphony (pastoral).

Lovely!

Yes, that is a wonderful piece of music, and definitely one of my favorite pieces by Howells. If you don't already know it, you should check out "A Spotless Rose" as well - another of his Christmas pieces with kind of the same gentle feel. It's on a number of British Christmas records - I'd have to go check, but I'm pretty sure the Cambridge Singers have recorded it.

I'm glad you all enjoyed it. Elizabeth, I have "A Spotless Rose" on one of my CDs, which I also quite like, but "Sing Lullaby" is still my favorite. :-) Rachel, I've not listened to Vaughan-Williams' 3rd symphony yet, but your comment has intrigued me!
