'39 Packard
Why is a photo of this elegant, beautiful, sleek, gorgeous, shiny '39 Packard gracing my blog?
It's our transportation on the wedding day!!!
It's owned by a local, semi-retired businessman who, although a complete stranger to us before we sought him out to ask about hiring the car, is willing to drive us around on our wedding day, "for the fun of it!"
In other '30s news... I have to confess that after we got back from vacation a few weeks ago, I gave up on the idea of completing a new '30s dress as a "going-away dress" in time for the wedding -- I was just piling too much upon my own shoulders and I didn't have enough time to get it done. Instead I decided to wear a dress I already own and love, which not too many people at the wedding will have seen before, anyway. Once I made that decision a great weight fell off, and I'm just as excited about my outfit even if it isn't "bran' new."

What a neat car!!! That is a nice choice for your going away outfit.
oh, how perfect! I had longed to 'go away' in a vintage car! this will be perfect with the 'cream Easter dress turned going away dress,' which, honestly, is PERFECT with the car!
The car is very stylish! The dress you've chosen is beautiful. There's no point creating extra stress for yourself when you are already making your wedding dress - and you will look beautiful whatever :-)

I just love your "going away car!" I have always dreamed of such a thing! :-) And your going away dress will be so lovely -- what a blessing that you won't have the extra work, and yet still won't have to "settle" for a dress. Your mother did such a beautiful job!
From the details you've shown, it looks like your wedding is going to be lovely, and perfectly *you*
Yours in Christ,
Shannon
Thank you for the compliments on my dress choice! It helps that I *do* have a jaunty "new" vintage hat to wear with it. ;-)
Douglas is extremely knowledgeable about cars and enjoys them a lot, so we're both veeery excited to be getting a ride in this one!
MMM..the most delish creamy color I ever did see. I can't wait to see you both in it.
What a blessing! And I think your "something old" going away dress is perfectly lovely.
I love the car and your going away dress!! When are you going to show your wedding dress??
Elizabeth
I love your choice of going-away dress. It's so lovely, and it's quite special that your mom made it for you. That car is sooo neat! How nice of the gentleman to drive you around for fun!
I would love to know what you're using for your "something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue" and you DO have a sixpence for your shoe, right? If you'd care to share, you know, in one of your many spare moments. ;)
Elizabeth, I won't show my dress until after the wedding -- sorry about the wait! :-)
Serena, LOL, I didn't even know I was supposed to have a sixpence in my shoe! I hadn't really thought about the old adage, either... I guess my dress and veil are new, my shoes are old (and by a stretch, borrowed, since they are second-hand), and (I think this is safe to reveal since I doubt Douglas will be looking at my blog between now and the wedding) my dress actually has a small bit of blue on it. :-D I'd better try to come up with something less lame for the "borrowed" category...
Wow, wow, wow! Now THAT is neat! =D I have always thought it would be fun to have a "going away" car, but in the form of a Model T. =)
