A fun weekend

On Saturday I headed up to the Big City to spend some time with my brother. Our activities included:

• the Symphony Orchestra playing Vaughan Williams (Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis), Korngold (Concerto in D Major for Violin and Orchestra), and Beethoven (Symphony No. 7).
  
• Aikido class -- Nathan participating, me watching.
  
• Thrifting. (I got a new-to-me corderoy jacket and denim skirt for $4!)
  
• English country dancing with a local ECD group! I learned 10 new dances!

Orange marmalade cake

Today I made an orange marmalade cake for my Aunt Joanna's birthday. We didn't have round cake pans so the cake is square!

A new coat for Laura

Small pleasures: a new coat from J. Crew (on sale!). I've had the same black J. Crew peacoat for the past ten years or so -- hopefully this one will last just as long!

Change is a-comin'!

I'll shortly be leaving home for an extended visit to relatives in Ohio in order to help care for my grandmother, who recently broke her hip, and to do some work for my uncle. I'll still have Internet access while I'm there, but I'm not sure yet how much I'll be able to post here. I will be taking a "sewing fast" as I'm not up to the task of figuring out how to carry my sewing machine on the airplane (though I know how Anna feels). I am planning on taking my camera, however, so I'll try to get any decent photographs uploaded when I can. :)
